On my way to Leiden, the Netherlands, I had a long layover in Warsaw, Poland. My flight out of Chicago had a bit of a rocky start with a suspicious individual being escorted off the plane along with his bags by police and paramedics… ok, maybe he was just really apprehensive about flying, but it was quite terrifying and we were not sad to see him leave. With 22 hours to spend in Warsaw, I booked a hostel and wandered around the Old Town area. It was a great, even though I was exhausted after the 9 hour flight. The buildings were awesome, but since there weren’t many English translations and I was using a Polish map, I’m not quite sure what I saw… except for the few things that were in English. I lasted a few hours amidst the old buildings (well, reconstructed old buildings since Warsaw was demolished during WWII) and then headed to the hostel for a well-deserved afternoon nap. As my first ever hostel stay, it went very well. The guy on the bunk next to me got back quite late and quite drunk and then snored unbelievably loudly. Other than that, it wasn’t too shabby of a place to stay a night.
